On my Tuesday morning stroll down East Olney avenue towards the subway station, I was enlightened by a person and a picture. A man approached my cousin and I while we were on our way to school asking for a quarter. In return for the quarter, he offered to give me what seems to be the only thing that he was carrying . I politely declined thinking that he didn't need to repay me for giving him a quarter. While I walked away, I had a sudden change of heart and doubled back as quickly as I could to catch him before he was out of my reach. His eye lit up when he acknowledged my return. I wanted to keep what he was offering I thought that if he wanted to give me something of his I should be grateful to accept. Soon after, he asked what my name was to autograph the beautiful piece you see to the left. It seemed as though he was practicing his signature many times before for this exact moment. Someone to acknowledge his talents. I am thankful that I came across you that morning Mr. Bernard. It was an honor to meet and talk to you. Now imagining if I had my headphones in like I usually do in the morning, I would have missed this opportunity. We need to stop making people feel invisible because we don't want to encounter something different.
